Adult and Youth Irish Motocross Championship Rules 2024
1. The Championships shall be open to M.R.A., Motorcycling Ireland (Inc. Southern Centre), A.C.U., S.A.C.U. and Continental F.M.N. Licence holders.
2. Motorcycling Ireland (MCI) and M.R.A. will nominate a Steward from each centre for all rounds, plus 1 steward from the organising club to bring the number of Stewards to three.
3. The rounds will be allocated to clubs through the M.C.U.I. Motocross Commission.
4. Each class will have 3 races at each round.
5. The M.C.U.I. Motocross Commission reserve the right to inspect and approve all venues used for Irish Motocross Championships.
6. Qualifying and gate selection will be by timed practice.
7. The number of competitors to qualify at each round will be according to the number of start gates.
8. All competitors must qualify. (No seeded competitors will be allowed)
9. If timing system fails, then manual timing will operate, and gate selection will be by drawing pegs.
10. Entries: Entry forms will be available online on Facebook at “Irish Motocross Championship” on the web at www.IMXChampionship.com or at the promoting club’s social media page. Entries must be paid in full before the closing date which will be the Friday at 12 noon immediately before the event. Late entries will be taken subject to space on the grid and to an additional late entry fee.
ENTRY FEES: Adults £50/€60, Youths £40/€50. Any entries available on the day will be taken subject to space on the grid. These entries will be subject to an additional £10/€10 late entry fee. For riders entering for both Saturday and Sunday an extra 320/€20 is due on the Saturday fee. (ie. adult £70/€80, youths £60/€70)
11. All rounds will count towards the Championships.
12. The scoring system shall be as follows: 1 st 25 points, 2nd 22 points, 3rd 20 points, 4th 18 points, 5th 16 points, 6th 15 points, 7th 14 points, 8th 13 points, 9th 12 points, 10th 11 points, 11th 10 points, 12th 9 points, 13th 8 points, 14th 7 points, 15th 6 points, 16th 5 points, 17th 4 points, 18th 3 points, 19th 2 points and 20th 1 point.
13. Full results of Championship races must be forwarded to the M.C.U.I. Motocross Championship Registrar within 7 days of the event finishing by the organizing clubs’ secretary.
14. All the days’ results will be ratified at the final Steward’s meeting.
15. The M.C.U.I Motocross Commission will decide what constitutes a championship.
16. In the event of a tie for the final Championship positions this shall be resolved in favour of the most wins, then second places, etc. and finally the last race of the Championship.
17. All races must be started by a mechanical drop back gates. In the case of starting gate failure, the race will be started by the National Flag.
18. After a false start, a race may only be restarted once. If it is necessary to stop a race more than once, it will be declared null and void.
19. Should less than the nominated number of races be run, the M.C.U.I. Motocross Commission shall decide if and how the Championship shall be awarded.
20. If a race is stopped before half distance (actual time duration) there will be a complete restart. The C.O.C. may exclude one or more competitors, deemed to be at fault for the race being stopped, from taking part in the restart. If stopped after half distance the winner will be decided from the lap before the red flag was displayed. The order of classification shall be based upon the order of the last competitor crossing the finishing line prior to the red flag being displayed and only competitors still racing at the showing of the red flag will be classified. Any competitor
determined by the C.O.C. to have been responsible for the red flag being displayed will be placed in the results behind competitors having completed an equal or greater number of laps.
21. If a chequered flag is mistakenly displayed later than the official distance, the finishing order shall be determined by the running order at the official time/distance. Under any other circumstances, such as mistaken display of the chequered flag before the official time/distance, the finishing order shall be determined by the running order at the time the chequered flag was displayed.
22. Riding numbers will be as per competition licence, if there are duplicate numbers between MCI and M.R.A. the rider whose centre is holding the round will have preference with the rider from outside the organising centre prefixing their number with the number 1.
23. All machines must be presented for eligibility and scrutiny before practice. The centre holding the round on the day reserve the right to examine and check any machine for oversized engine capacity or to have them sealed for measuring at a time to be arranged.
24. In the case of an appeal the Centre whose jurisdiction the round is held in, will conduct the appeal.
25. A second and final appeal may be made to the M.C.U.I. within seven days of the results of the previous appeal with a fee of £15 or €15.
26. An M.C.U.I. appeal committee will be made up of 3 MCI members and 3 M.R.A. members and the M.C.U.I. Honorary Secretary as a non-voting member.
27. In the case of an appeal to either Centre, the appeal must be forwarded with the correct fee to the Secretary of the Centre concerned.
28. An appeal to the M.C.U.I. should be addressed to the Honorary Secretary of the M.C.U.I.
29. Flags:
Yellow stationary: Danger, ride cautiously.
Yellow waved: Immediate danger, prepare to stop and No overtaking.
Red flag: Stop / compulsory for everyone.
Green flag: Under starters orders, track clear.
White with Red Cross: First aid required.
Black flag with riders No on board: Rider must stop within 2 laps.
Blue: Warning you are about to be lapped.
Yellow with black cross: Last lap. National flag: Start.
Chequered flag: Finish.
30.Sharing of transponders at Irish Championships is not allowed. It is the responsibility of the rider to ensure the transponder is securely fixed to the machine and in working order, failure of either will result in a no score being recorded by the time keepers
31. Medical cover. There must be one ambulance and sufficient first aid personnel present at the circuit at all times, or Practice or Racing must stop until an ambulance is present.
32. It is the organising club’s responsibility to have watering, track maintenance facilities available and to ensure the circuit is safe and layout is according to the regulations in force at the time.
33. All other rules by the G.C.R’s and Standing Regulations and any Supplementary Regulations that have been issued or may be issued.
Supplementary regulations 2022:
1. 6 Rounds in total, 3 rounds will be promoted by M.R.A and 3 by MCI, these events will be held on a Saturday and Sunday. All rounds count in the championship
2. Saturday Groups: Automatic 50cc, 65cc (Juniors), Small Wheel 85cc, Big Wheel 85cc, 125cc 2 stroke (Intermediate Youths), 150 2 stroke /250 4 stroke (Premier Youths), Adult Women’s, Evos and a non- transponder adult class. Only riders from the Women’s, Evos and eligible Youths may ride the following day.
3. Sunday Groups: Qualifying: Grade C MX1, Grade C MX2, Over 35s/Veterans, Grade B MX1 and MX2, Grade A MX1 and MX2, Racing: Grade C MX1, Grade C MX2, Semi Pro Class, Pro Class
4. Points scoring: Youths: All youth classes will be scored separately on the day and at year end even though some classes might run in the same group.
5. Points scoring: Adults: For the championship at year end: Competitors from different grades may race together but will be scored separately. All following grades will score points as normal on the day and these points will be added together for year-end: C Class MX1, C Class MX2, B Class MX1, B Class MX2, A Class MX1, A Class MX2, Over 35 Class, Veteran Class, Women’s Class, Evos Class and Pro Class. The rider with themost Pro Class points at year end will be named as the Overall Irish Motocross Champion.
Adult racing on the day: Saturday: Women’s and Evos will race together but will be scored separate.
Sunday: Both C Classes and the over35/Veteran Classes will have their own races. After qualifying, the fastest 40* of the A and B riders (regardless of cc) will form a new class: Pro Class, the rest of the A and B riders will race in the Semi Pro Class. All A and B riders will still receive year end points according to their position in their daily class. If a rider qualifies in the Pro class, they will automatically be ahead of a rider for points in the Semipro class. At the end of the day, the top 10 Pro riders will receive prize-money according to their total points accumulated during the day. (* Fastest 40 can be changed to a smaller number by steward’s meeting dependant on entries)
6. Over 35s class: Rider must have reached their 35th birthday by race day. There are no separate grades in this class, all riders will race together and score points as normal. They will be racing in the same group as the Veterans but will be scored separately.
7. Veterans Class: Rider must have reached their 45th birthday by race day. There are no separate grades in this class, all riders will race together and score points as normal. They will be racing in the same group as the Over 35s but will be scored separately.
8. Women’s Class: Open to all female riders eligible to ride as adults (ie. over 15 years). MX1 and MX2 bikes will race together. This class will run along with the Evo class and non-championship non-transponder riders but will be be scored separately.
9. Evo Class: Open to all eligible adult riders with a motocross bike no newer than from the year 2000. This class will run along with the Evo class and non-championship non-transponder riders but will be be scored separately.
10. Fun Class: Adults only. This class will not be scored, it is meant for novice or fun riders only. Dependant on numbers, it will be ran in the same session as the Women's and Evo class. A and B graded riders are specifically excluded from riding in this class and if they do, they will not be able to ride or score points in the Semi Pro or Pro class on the Sunday. (This exclusion does not apply to Women's, Evos or eligible youth riders)
11. Youth Autos Class. Open to automatic 50cc bikes for youths of eligible age, no distinction made between small and big wheel bikes. Maximum wheel size 14” front and 12” rear.
12. Junior 65 class Open to 65cc bikes for youths of eligible age. There are 2 classes in combined races for Junior 65 and Cadet 65 riders.
13. Small Wheel 85cc class open to 85cc 2 stroke and 150cc 4 stroke bikes of 17” Front wheel and 14” rear wheel for youths of an eligible age.
14. Big Wheel 85cc class open to 85cc 2 stroke and 150cc 4 stroke bikes of 19” Front wheel and 16” rear wheel for youths of an eligible age.
15. Youth 125 Intermediate class open to 125cc 2 strokes for youths of eligible age
16. Youth 250 Premier class open to 150cc 2 strokes and 250 4strokes to youths of eligible age.
17. Flag Marshals Each club will provide flag sufficient marshals.
18. To be classed as a “Finisher”, riders must complete 75% of the total laps completed by the race leader but passing the finish line is not compulsory.
19. All Youth Classes will be run separately except for the Small Wheel and Big Wheel 85cc, and the Intermediate and Premier classes which may be run together. If there are less than 15 riders in one class and less than 40 riders in total, then these classes can be run together at the promoting clubs’ discretion.
20. Spectators will only be charged on the Sunday. Parking and entry for riders and mechanics is free of charge and track entry fees will only be charged after sign-on is closed. The amount spectators pay is at the club’s discretion.
21. Overnight parking will be catered for however all generators must be switched off after 11pm.
